ALOPECIA UK IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE JOANNA ROWSELL AS NEW AMBASSADOR

Alopecia UK has named Champion cyclist, Joanna Rowsell as new ambassador for the charity.

Joanna Rowsell is a cyclist on the Great Britain Cycling Team and competed at the London 2012 Olympics where she won GOLD in the Women’s Team Pursuit. She is currently the National, European and World Champion, and also the World Record Holder for this event. Joanna was diagnosed with alopecia and lost all of her hair when she was 10 years old. The champion cyclist wears a wig day-to-day but doesn’t wear one for training or competing. She receives a lot of media attention about her alopecia and reached millions worldwide following her gold medal win in the 2012 Olympics.

Joanna said “I had made my peace with the condition and was comfortable talking about it to the media, but was totally overwhelmed with the general response from alopecia sufferers and non-alopecia sufferers alike.”

She continues “I am excited to be an ambassador for Alopecia UK because they do fantastic work to improve the lives of those affected by alopecia.  I hope to connect with more people with the condition and help in some way because I believe having alopecia shouldn’t hold you back. My mantra which applies to both my sport and my general life is “Only think about the things you can control; don’t worry about the things you can’t control” There is no point spending my life wishing things were different, so instead embrace every opportunity you are given and don’t let alopecia stop you.”

Amy Johnson, Communications Manager, Alopecia UK said “We are so proud to be announcing Joanna as our new ambassador. With her high profile Joanna can help to raise awareness of both Alopecia UK and the condition itself.  Joanna is a fantastic role model to everyone but especially young people with alopecia.  We hope she will inspire another generation of champions!” Joanna’s full story can be found at www.alopecia.org.uk/
