Birmingham City Council commit to new confidential material contract

Following a 6 month tender process, Birmingham City Council has appointed a company to manage its confidential shredding requirements for the next 4 years. The successful business Printwaste Recycling & Shredding is now working with the Council to help provide and improve its confidential waste destruction with the potential to service 65 sites across Birmingham, as well as supporting the Council’s environmental commitment.

Not only was Printwaste audited for its security credentials, other factors included cost and efficiency, as well as enhancing internal recycling practices. Printwaste’s closed loop recycling policy, helps ensure that office paper can be effectively recycled again being reproduced as office paper, rather than tissue paper or going to landfill. This approach helps support Birmingham City Council’s environmental commitment to maximise diversion of paper waste from landfill.

Cllr James McKay, Cabinet Member for a Green, Safe and Smart City at Birmingham City Council, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to secure a contractor with environmental ambitions that match those of the city council. Any waste that we landfill is an added cost to the taxpayer, so the solution offered by this contract means we avoid this and provide excellent value for the taxpayer.”

Don Robins, Director of Printwaste said “We are delighted with the award of the Birmingham City Council contract which reflects Printwaste’s ability to provide a highly professional and secure service, while giving cost effective solutions and high customer service levels. This important contract highlights our strengths in secure shredding and data destruction and further demonstrates our growing market share in the Birmingham and West Midlands areas.”

The contract includes use of Printwaste’s fleet of mobile shredding vehicles for on-site shredding at the council offices which together with an off-site shredding service at its high security data destruction and recycling facility gives the council total assurance with a versatile service to its multi-site offices.
