BUSINESSES BEWARE OF LINE RENTAL INCREASES WARNS LOCAL TELECOMS COMPANY EUROLINK CONNECT

Small businesses need to be aware of their rights and not just accept price hikes, advises South West company Eurolink Connect.  Last month communication providers were informed of future wholesale prices increases and recently BT have announced to their business customers that line rentals will be increasing by an average 5.5 per cent from 1 August 2014.  Whilst large companies will have to wait until the end of their contracts or face contract penalties for leaving early, small businesses have more choice.

Claire Maddox, Director, Eurolink Connect elaborates “If your business has less than 10 employees you can benefit from the ruling made by Ofcom last year. Ofcom, who regulate telecoms companies, set guidance rules in October 2013 stating that communication providers must give one month’s notice of any changes to their contractual terms and must also allow customers with 10 or less employees to withdraw penalty free as a result.”

She continues “BT Retail has written to their business customers informing them of the price rise and also advising that they are going to change the prices of some of their broadband packages and products.  We would expect to see other providers follow BT’s lead, however Eurolink customers will see their prices remain unchanged whilst retaining full business standards of service”.

Eurolink is advising all businesses to keep a close eye on communications from their  telecoms provider to ensure they don’t miss important contractual change notifications.  At times when businesses are keeping close controls on expenditure inflating price of lines and broadband could have significant impact.
