PRINTWASTE CONTINUE TO HELP LOCAL MEDICAL CHARITY STAY GREEN

Cobalt is calling on people to donate their used Christmas cards this January

Cheltenham based business Printwaste Recycling & Shredding has actively been supporting local medical charity Cobalt since 2009; they continue to help boost the charity’s fundraising initiative by actively encouraging their clients to get involved, by donating their used Christmas cards. Printwaste Director, Geof Robins said “thanks to extra support from our customers, over the past four years we have been able to help raise the card donation levels and also provide our recycling services in order to support this very worthy cause”.

Each January the charity launches an appeal for members of public to donate their used Christmas cards to Cobalt; they are recycled, and re-made into new cards, to be sold the following Christmas, raising vital funds for the charity.

The process of sorting, remaking and recycling the cards is taken care of by a team of volunteers who meet at Cobalt, Linton House each day (Mon – Fri) for the 3 weeks of the sort.

When finished the cards are sold at Cobalt, Linton House and the volunteers place cards for sale in their local shops, churches and community groups. They also help to replenish stock and get the money back to Cobalt. Each year the recycled card sales raise approx. £35,000 a year for the charity.

Cobalt can’t use every card that is donated to them and that’s where award winning Printwaste Recycling and Shredding come in. Any leftover card waste is recycled free of charge by Printwaste, who already handles Cobalt’s general paper and cardboard waste.  Printwaste, which supplies regional and national confidential data destruction and recycling services also help manage collections.

Wheelie bins are provided by Printwaste to store unwanted Christmas cards before collection. These are located at three of Printwaste’s larger customer’s sites – Endsleigh Insurance, UCAS and Cheltenham Borough Council.

Mary Peterson, Regional Community Fundraiser said: “The services of Printwaste are vital to our Christmas card sorting and recycling scheme (as well as our greetings card recycling that runs all year). We simply couldn’t do it without their help and generosity, collecting the many bags of cards throughout the January sorting process. Their friendly and efficient team makes the whole process run smoothly and we are so very grateful for their continued support of Cobalt.”

Members of public can donate their used cards at Cobalt, Linton House,
Thirlestaine Road, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, GL53 7AS from January 6th-15th 2014 (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm)
