Local Optometrist offers teachers a lesson in Vision and Learning

Keith Holland recently delivered information evenings for teachers and parents, helping them spot vision problems that could be mistaken for learning difficulties. Keith also explained how these vision problems can be easily treated with a simple course of Vision Therapy, allowing every child the opportunity to reach their potential at school.

Children frequently have hidden vision processing problems which prevent them from learning effectively at school. Some children are given routine eye tests during schooling, which mainly test for ability to see at distance, not the visual processes taking place. Once a standard eye test determines that no sight problem exists, vision problems are often ruled-out as a contributory factor which is why children are often misdiagnosed with learning difficulties.

Keith Holland assesses children’s visual processing skills and prescribes a course of Vision Therapy if he can see that a problem exists.  Vision Therapy is a process that exercises the muscles in the eye and improves processing skills.  Keith has seen the benefits of his treatment programmes over many years in the profession; Vision Therapy has transformed the lives of countless children and in most cases reading writing and learning are quickly and dramatically improved.

With patients in 55 different countries, Keith’s expertise is in demand. Unfortunately though, vision therapy is overlooked by much of the optometric profession, meaning opportunities to help children are often missed. Keith is determined to educate as much of the teaching profession as possible, to help increase the proportion of children receiving this beneficial treatment.

Keith Holland & Associates has hosted evenings for teachers in and parents for many years and with excellent feedback, the programme is set to continue. Teachers wishing to find out about future information evenings should call 01242 233500.
